Siam International Awards
Los Angeles, CA
In Bangkok, Thailand ahead of the Labor Day weekend, master martial artist and Kumu Po’okela Lua (teacher of the Hawaiian warrior sacred tradition) Michelle Manu was honored at the Siam International Awards Gala, as the 2025 Global Cultural Icon and Living Legacy of Women Warriors. This is the first time this award has been presented to a Knight Commander of the Royal Order of Kamehameha I and an AANHPI American woman. This prestigious award adds to a distinguished list of recognitions Manu has received over more than twenty years, including the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award
When asked how it feels to be making history, Manu shared, “I am honored…This award is not mine alone–it belongs to the women warriors who came before me, those who have yet to rise and those yet to be born. To be acknowledged on a global stage, affirms that ancient traditions and feminine power continue to inspire, heal generational and societal trauma and empower people across all cultures..preservation and practice of indigenous wisdom is not just heritage–it is a living force that shapes a more just, courageous and compassionate world.”
Prior to the awards presentation and gala, select honorees were invited to participate in Thailand International Fashion Week. Upon special request, Manu represented her Hawaiian heritage on the runway with radiant joy, throughout. One enthusiastic attendee remarked “…how encouraging (to see) a strong, beautiful woman bring joy to the (runway).” She presented designs from the United Kingdom, Portugal and India.
Manu has since returned to California and is preparing for upcoming projects, including the opening of a permanent exhibit at The Martial Arts History Museum. “The Women Warriors” exhibit is scheduled for unveiling in 2026. Martial Arts History Museum
