The Masters Hall of Fame announces a significant leadership transition as Hanshi Daniel Hect steps down from his role as Chief Executive Officer. To ensure the organization’s continued growth and commitment to excellence, Hect has appointed Kumu Po’okela Lua, Dr. Michelle Manu as the new CEO, effective immediately. Hect will continue to serve on the Board of Directors, providing guidance and support during this next chapter.

Hanshi Hect, a respected leader in the martial arts community, has dedicated over 20 years to shaping the Masters Hall of Fame into a premier organization that honors and preserves the contributions of martial artists worldwide. His vision and leadership have been instrumental in advancing cultural education and fostering a sense of community within the martial arts world.

“I am proud of what we have accomplished during my tenure as CEO,” said Hect. “It is time for new leadership to take the Masters to the next level of excellence. I have full confidence in Kumu Manu’s ability to lead our organization with passion, integrity, and dedication.”

Kumu Manu is a prominent figure in the martial arts community with over 40 years of experience specializing in Lua, the indigenous Hawaiian warrior art. As a respected Kumu (teacher), she has dedicated her life to protecting and perpetuating the art of Lua, emphasizing its cultural significance. Kumu Manu is the first woman to serve as CEO in the organization’s history. She also served the Masters as the Vice President of Legal Affairs, bringing both cultural and organizational leadership to her new role. 

“I am deeply honored to step into this role and continue the important work of the Masters Hall of Fame,” said Kumu Manu. “Hanshi Hect exemplifies what leadership in martial arts can look like. I hope it affirms to women everywhere that their voices, knowledge, and authority are welcomed and belong at the highest levels of our organizations. I look forward to expanding our outreach, promoting cultural education, and honoring the legacies of martial artists whose contributions have shaped our community.”

Under Kumu Manu’s leadership, the Masters Hall of Fame will focus on several key initiatives, including:

*Legacy Preservation: Developing initiatives to honor and preserve the legacies of impactful martial artists, ensuring their contributions are recognized for future generations.
